Our client, one of the UK’s largest energy providers, required a cable and connectors to power an acoustic fish deterrent system. This project would supply power and signal to eight speakers situated underwater to prevent fish from coming too close to the station’s cooling water intake. It was imperative that the cable have a design life of over 10 years when submerged in sea water to a depth of 15 metres. The cable would also have to be flexible enough to bend through 90 degrees and have a high level of mechanical or armoured protection. Rugged connectors and a subsea junction box would also be required to deliver power effectively ...
read moreThe client required reliable umbilical cables to supply power to moveable platforms located in their indoor wave test pool. This project incorporated power, signal data and a 6mm Overall Diameter (OD) pneumatic line within the umbilical. After a full consultation with the customer, Hydrocable Systems designed, tested and engineered 1600m of CS 5975 specifically for this application. This design consists of 3x power cores (Class 6 insulated conductors, 35sq mm), 3x twisted screened pairs (24 awg), 2x twisted screened braided pairs (0.75sq mm), 3x insulated conductors (6.0sq mm) and 2x Nylon hoses (6.0mm overall diameter) ...
read moreWith the volume of data required to support subsea operations, Hydro Group established a clear need to develop a versatile, cost-effective connector solution for use in a range of global subsea environments. The product had to be, amongst other challenging objectives, compatible with a range of cabling, designed for long-term use and have a low impact on the seabed. Developed and tested with hazardous sea conditions in mind, the Hydro Renewable Connector (HRC) comes in 12 kV and 36 kV applications. Both allow rapid deck mateable connection of two subsea three-phase electrical cables while preserving operation of each circuit ...
read moreA global engineering firm enlisted the experience of Hydro Group to supply a power and signal subsea cable for its riser caisson on the Forties Alpha platform, located in the Apache Bacchus Field North Sea development over 110 miles east of Aberdeen, Scotland.
As a mature field generating significant revenue, the client was eager to find a cost-effective, reliable and customisable response to the challenge of supplying power and signal data to and from the caisson. As part of a tailored solution, Hydro Group’s Hydro Cable Systems designed and manufactured 1500 metres of bespoke subsea power and signal cable ...
read moreWhen a client in the nuclear industry encountered issues operating their ROVs in murky shallow water conditions, they asked Hydro Cable Systems - a subsidiary of Hydro Group - to engineer a dependable solution to prevent them becoming entangled in their own tethers. After a full research, development and testing programme, the company engineered an illuminated LED tether specifically for inspection duties, using electroluminescent (EL) wire from the customer’s favoured supplier. The finished tether bundles electrical power, control elements and high density polyethylene insulation with a filler buoyancy layer ...
read moreResponding to customer demand, Hydro Cable Systems has developed its CS 1366 cable, suitable for permanent immersion in potable water with no adverse side effects on the environment or cable operation. Following an exhaustive R&D phase, the CS 1366 cable was developed. As standard, it features a nominal overall diameter of 15mm, with a laid-up diameter of 10.5mm. With a maximum continuous length of 2300 metres, it is perfect for use in environments where a longer length cable is required. A two-core twisted pair makes up the innards of the cable, with a double-wrap of polyester tape and high density polyethylene (PE) insulation ...
